TCU Lettermen’s Hall of Fame Class of 2019

 

The TCU Lettermen’s Association announces  its 2019 Hall of Fame Class. It will be the 52nd class to be inducted into the TCU Lettermen’s Hall of Fame. Shannon Brazzell, Matt Carpenter, Tony Jeffery, Jill Sutton-Dodd, Brooke Tull, and Phil Turner will comprise the 52nd class to be inducted into the TCU Lettermen’s Association Hall of Fame on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at TCU’s Brown-Lupton University Union.

 

Shannon Brazzell (2000 — Football)

Shannon Brazzell earned second team All-WAC in 1999 and first team All-WAC in 2000. The two-time team captain played linebacker for the Frogs and finished the 1999 season with a team-high 98 tackles and recorded 4 forced fumbles on the season which ranks third most in TCU history during the Gary Patterson era. Today, he remains heavily involved with TCU and throughout the North Texas community through his Be a Blessing Foundation.

 

Matt Carpenter (2009 – Baseball)

Matt Carpenter was the Horned Frogs’ third baseman from 2005-09. He earned second team All-Mountain West Conference in 2006, 2008, and 2009. Carpenter currently ranks second all-time in games played (241), third all-time in at-bats (843), third all-time in hits (263), fourth all-time in doubles (57), and second all-time in walks (150) for the Frogs. In 2009, he was drafted in the 13th round by the St. Louis Cardinals and has been a 3-time MLB All-Star. In 2013, he led MLB in hits, runs scored, and doubles in 2013. Today, he still plays third base for the St. Louis Cardinals, he is a TCU Lifetime Lettermen’s Association Member, and a major contributor to the TCU Baseball program.

 

Tony Jeffery (1987 – Football)

Tony Jeffery rocked the mid-80’s as TCU’s leading rusher in 1985, 1986 and 1987. By the end of his collegiate career he finished as the Frogs’ number two all-time rusher (3,749 yards) and fourth all-time in touchdowns (31). In 1987, he earned the title of All-Southwest Conference as a running back. In 1988, he was drafted in the second round by the Phoenix Cardinals and also played for the New York/New Jersey Knights in the World League of American Football.

 

Jill Sutton-Dodd (2001 — Women’s Basketball)

Jill Sutton-Dodd was the 1998 WAC Freshman of the Year and made the 1998 WAC All-Newcomer Team. Sutton-Dodd was a three-time All-WAC selection in 1998, 1999 and 2001 and also helped lead the Frogs to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2001. She is third all-time in games started, second all-time in three point shots made (296), and fourth all-time in assists (445).

 

Brooke Tull (2004 – Women’s Golf)

Brooke Tull was a three-time Conference USA Player of the Year. She ranks second at TCU with four tournament wins, including the C-USA title in 2002, which led the Frogs to the team title. Later that season, Tull was named TCU’s Female Athlete of the Year. In 2004, she earned second team All-America honors. In 2005, Conference-USA named Tull the Women’s Golfer of the Decade. After TCU, she went on to play several seasons on the LPGA Tour.

 

Phil Turner (1974 – Baseball)  –  Vintage

Phil Turner was a two-time All-Southwest Conference player in 1973 and 1974. In 1973, he was named an All-American at second base. Turner led his team in hits in 1971 (47), batting average (.388) and RBIs (38) in 1973, and stolen bases (17) in 1974. Turner was an anchor for his team both offensively and defensively while playing alongside other TCU Hall of Famers like Frank Johnstone (P), Don Bodenhamer (3B), Jimmy Torres (C), and Tommy Crain (1B).
